Sink Your Teeth into this Episode of Monster Mash
The Legacy and History of Dracula
The character of Dracula is arguably the most iconic creation born of the Victorian era, but is he as Victorian as you may think? Does Dracula really belong to Germany, the modern era…Mexico? Find out how Dracula’s Gothic roots become bastardized and transformed into a postmodern amalgam more akin to Frankenstein in this episode of Monster Mash.

ReplyDeleteLoved your guys' synopsis of the various iterations and adaptations of Bram Stoker's Dracula, the kind of contextual back and forth mixed with the educational tone was a great mixture of academic understanding and a casual fun podcast! I like how it didn't feel like a lecture while sitting through it, and many times while listening it seemed to meld into the background without losing my interest in a way similar to other professional podcasts I've listened to before. The discussion of the German and Mexican versions were my favorite part of the podcast with a bunch of fun little asides ("he doesn't have Dracula hands!"). I wish you guys talked a little bit more about the transfer from Gothic Germanic tribes to the Victorian conception of the literary "Gothic" genre because it really is a fascinating and vast area of study that factors into a lot of Dracula's character, but that's more of a personal desire than a legitimate criticism. There was definitely some audio mixing and volume issues throughout it that some editing could fix, but other than that you guys covered a huge swath of what the Dracula character encompasses (World War 1 and Religion also being some of my fan favorites) that really brought some lesser known things about the character to the surface in an exciting way. Great job!
