Welcome to ENGL 335: Victorian Media (Fall 2021)!
Welcome to the blog for ENGL 335: Victorian Media, the sophomore/junior research seminar running in Fall 2021 at Manhattan College. We'll be using our blog to share the results of our research here, including cool Victorian artifacts, artworks and texts as well as reviews of essays by scholars that are useful to students of all kinds of Victorian media.
Our seminar understands "media" to encompass everything from novels and newspapers to advertisements and fashion. We consider anything that communicates meaning (explicitly and implicitly) to be a media form. We aim, furthermore, to consider the widest possible social, political, aesthetic, ethical and cultural implications--then and now--of verbal, visual and other sensory expressions produced by Victorian artists, writers, thinkers and inventors.
We hope you enjoy!
